A 21-year-old Winnetka man was killed early Saturday, April 19 when he got out of his wrecked pickup on the 210 Freeway in Glendora and was struck by a car.
The crash, reported to the California Highway Patrol at 3:57 a.m., occurred in westbound lanes of the Foothill Freeway at Sunflower Avenue.
An investigation revealed that the man who died was driving a gray Toyota Tacoma pickup when he was involved in a non-injury collision with a big rig, leaving the pickup disabled in middle lanes, according to the CHP.
The man got out of his truck and was standing in the roadway trying to signal passing motorists, the CHP reported.
A gray Volkswagen Jetta driven by a 47-year-old man from Victorville struck the man, who was standing in lanes, then rear-ended the disabled pickup, the CHP reported.
The Winnetka man was pronounced dead at the scene and the Victorville man was taken by ambulance to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center for treatment of major injuries, the CHP reported.
Alcohol and/or drugs were not believed to have contributed to the crash, the CHP reported.
A SigAlert shut down multiple westbound lanes of the freeway from 4:13 a.m. to 8:40 a.m.
