3 arrested on suspicion of fatal North Hollywood shooting

Three men were arrested on Thursday, Oct. 16, on suspicion of murder in the fatal shooting of a man in North Hollywood, authorities said.

The shooting occurred earlier that day in the 7300 block of Lankershim Boulevard, at about 12:30 p.m., with Los Angeles officers arriving to find the victim on the ground with a gunshot wound, police said.

Despite medical aid, the man, believed to be 25 years old, died at the scene.

Valley Division homicide detectives took over and identified the three men as suspects, police said. They were later taken into custody.

The suspects are:

  • Angel Banuelos, 31
  • Joshua Provencio, 21
  • Jonathan Cuellar, 24

Each suspect was being held in jail on $2 million bail, police said.

The shooting was believed to be gang-related, with the three men approaching the victim before one of them opened fire, then running off, police said.

Lankershim, in that stretch, is lined with large apartment buildings to the east and commercial buildings to the west.

The victim’s identity was withheld by police pending notification of his relatives.

Further information about the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including a possible motive, were not immediately disclosed by police.
