APD was able to track the iPad to 901 First Street and also found the firefighter’s truck.
An officer noted that the driver of the truck was wearing an AFR hat, and a man and a woman were also sitting in the vehicle.
Detectives followed the vehicle to 1821 Commercial St. NE and arrested the driver, later identified as Askins, and the two other passengers, Payne and Barragan, according to court documents.
The firefighter who owned the vehicle met officers at the scene and recovered all the items that were taken to the station, except the keys to one vehicle. The firefighter also told police that his truck appeared damaged on the front end.
According to court documents, Askins, Payne, and Barragan gave conflicting statements to investigators and were all charged with non-residential burglary, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, criminal damage to property, and conspiracy to commit non-residential burglary.
