Albuquerque man who escaped juvenile detention appears in court

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The young man who admitted to murder and then escaped from the juvenile detention center over the weekend appeared in court on Tuesday. The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office says 19-year-old Josef Toney fled from the Youth Services Center on Saturday before returning the next day.


Law enforcement asking for help in Albuquerque hit-and-run crash

Toney was being detained there after he pled guilty to five charges including two counts of murder for the 2021 shooting deaths of Aerial Mallam and Jessica Lucero. He is scheduled to be sentenced for the murders in a month. He’s also facing new charges for the escape.
