Event in Aurora to focus on AI

Artificial intelligence, and how it is transforming the face of work, is the subject of the next Northern Illinois University STEM cafe event set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 6, at Two Brothers Roundhouse, 205 N. Broadway in Aurora.

NIU Associate Professor of Communication Andrea L. Guzman and Argonne Laboratory Research Scientist Aikaterini Vriza will lead the program, which is free and open to the public.

Guzman researches how people interact with artificial intelligence and related technologies.

“I want people to understand that they are not alone in their feelings about AI – positive, negative or somewhere between,” Guzman said in a press release about the program. “My goal is to help people better understand what AI is, how it can be used positively, and what to watch out for to ensure it is used ethically. I want to move them from being overwhelmed by AI toward feeling like they are better equipped to make decisions for themselves about it.”
