New Mexico getting special Medicaid behavioral health help

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – New Mexico was selected as one of 10 states to get enhanced funding for behavioral health services. The funds support a four-year Medicaid program with new clinical offerings.

“We are proud that New Mexico has been selected as one of the states to participate in this innovative approach to behavioral health,” Kari Armijo, cabinet secretary for the New Mexico Human Services Department, said in a press release. “The launch of [Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics ](CCBHCs) is a significant step forward in ensuring that all New Mexicans will have access to high-quality, comprehensive mental health and substance use treatment.”

The state will launch the new clinical program in 2025, the Human Services Department (HSD) says. They will offer 24/7 crisis help and comprehensive mental health and substance use treatment. They will offer services to anyone who walks in, regardless of age or insurance, the department says.

“These designated CCBHC providers will deliver high quality and well-coordinated services, Nick Boukas, director of HSD’s Behavioral Health Services Division, said in a press release. “This initiative will bolster our capacity to address behavioral health needs including substance use disorder in New Mexico.”
