In the last few weeks, several AEW stars and backstage personalities have departed the promotion, including Matt Hardy, Mark Henry, Arn Anderson, and Jake Hager. The contracts of Matt Hardy, Mark Henry, Arn Anderson, and Jake Hager have expired, and they decided to leave the promotion. However, recent reports suggest a current AEW star was present backstage at the recent edition of WWE NXT.

In the recent edition of WWE NXT, Cody Rhodes made an appearance. He revealed to Trick Williams that his next challenger would be determined by a 25-man battle royal next week. However, Rhodes dropped a major hint by mentioning that some participants would be from different locker rooms. This led fans to speculate whether the other participants would be from TNA or his previous promotion, AEW.

The show featured former AEW stars Cody Rhodes, Shawn Spears, Ethan Page, and Lexi King in a backstage segment. Amidst these AEW references, AEW star Rebel was also present at the recent WWE NXT edition. Fightful Select behind paywall reported that Rebel from AEW attended tonight’s NXT. The report doesn’t specify why she was there, but it mentions that she has a personal connection to someone working at NXT.

With WWE recently collaborating with TNA, it will be interesting to see if Rebel’s presence backstage leads to any collaboration between these promotions.

What’s next for AEW’s Rebel? Current status revealed

Reports of AEW star Rebel being backstage have sparked speculation about her status with the promotion. Rebel has not appeared on AEW TV since 2022, with her last match being a dark match in August of that year. However, reports from Fightful Select indicate that Rebel is still under contract with Tony Khan’s promotion despite her recent absence.

Rebel has been with the promotion since 2019, initially hired by AEW in a backstage role as a hair and makeup stylist for its women wrestlers. However, later, she teamed up with Britt Baker, becoming her personal assistant and eventually making her in-ring debut. While her participation in matches lasted for a while, it will be interesting to see when she will make her next appearance on screen.
