September 27-28 The Show – Albuquerque’s longest-running comedy show happens every Friday and Saturday at 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $12.

September 28 2024 Summer of Nonviolence Event – This week’s final theme is to celebrate the day of remembrance by helping those who have lost a loved one to homicide. Event begins at 2:00 p.m.

September 28 Flower Arranging Workshop at Big Jim Farms – This event begins at 11:00 a.m. Tickets are $25.

September 28 Fiesta Fanatics Cleanup Event – Help the City of Albuquerque Solid Waste Management Department clean up to get Albuquerque ready for our out-of-town visitors for Balloon Fiesta.

September 27-29 The Woman in Black – Performances at the Rio Grande Theatre in Las Cruces are happening all weekend long. Tickets are $15 ($10 for students).

September 28 2024 Silver City Farmers’ Market – The market at 1120 N. Main St. in Silver City begins at 9:00 a.m. to noon.

September 28 The Wallflowers – The Wallflowers take the stage of the Lensic in Santa Fe at 7:30 p.m.

September 28 Pecos Adventure Day – A kid’s fishing derby will take place at Monastery Lake from 7:00 a.m. to noon along with a river cleanup beginning at 9:30 a.m.

September 28 Ruidoso Oktoberfest – Enjoy live music at 2704 Sudderth Dr. in Ruidoso beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Albuquerque Notices

🔶 City of Albuquerque receives federal funding to improve Mesa Verde Park – The city is set to receive a $1,350,000 grant from the federal government for Mesa Verde Park located in the International District. Mayor Tim Keller said the park has never seen a rehabilitation project in its 40-year history, and it is finally due for one.

🔶 2024 Twinkle Light Parade applications open – The event, which is family-friendly and free, is scheduled for December 15 at 5:15 p.m. It’ll be in Nob Hill. Local businesses, the community, and school groups come together to present the dazzling sight. To get involved, you can apply here.

🔶 Flights between Albuquerque, Angel Fire expected to take off before 2025 – Advanced Air will offer seasonal flights between Colfax County’s Angel Fire Airport and Albuquerque International Sunport from December to March and June to September. The new partnership was approved by Colfax County leaders Monday morning.

🔶 Bernalillo County speed cameras to start issuing citations on Wednesday – The county has installed six cameras on five thoroughfares in an effort to get drivers to slow down. They went operational on August 26 but speeders were initially sent written warnings. Now, drivers caught speeding could get a $100 citation or a $25 fine with four hours of community service.

🔶 Affordable senior housing coming to Albuquerque in 2026 – The Farolito project at Central and Eubank promises 82 apartments for lower-income seniors. The project site has been vacant for nearly two decades on property owned by the New Mexico State Land Office.

🔶 APS and Crime Stoppers creating partnership so students can report crime anonymously – Albuquerque Police Chief Harold Medina said this will renew their effort to get students to report crimes anonymously. A similar program first popped up in 2009 called Campus Crime Stoppers but Chief Medina said over the years it ceased to exist.

🔶 PNM provides safety demonstration ahead of 2024 Balloon Fiesta – The safety demonstration emphasized preparedness and emergency response tactics surrounding power lines and ballooning. Although PNM stations employees both at the field and at the PNM Distribution Operations Center during fiesta, safety is in the hands of attendees and pilots as well.

🔶 Bernalillo County accepts grant to hire more firefighters, EMTs – The $262,000 grant is from the New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration and was accepted on behalf of Bernalillo County Fire Rescue. On Tuesday, commissioners voted to accept a $262,000 grant from the New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration on behalf of Bernalillo County Fire Rescue for the hiring of two firefighter/EMT positions.

🔶 Museum of Nuclear Science and History opening new exhibit – The National Museum of Nuclear Science and History is unveiling a new exhibit: Mission Aerospace. The new exhibit is a multi-layered, interactive exploration of aviation history and aerospace milestones. The new exhibit opens June 22 and runs through October 6.

🔶 Albuquerque’s Old Town to receive upgrades to assist tourists in navigating the area – Old Town is one of Albuquerque’s most iconic spots full of history, culture, and character. It’s a tourist hot spot seeing new improvements in the coming year. One of those improvements is designed to help visitors navigate their way through the historic area.

🔶 Santa Fe County Sheriff talks about move to 4-day workweek for deputies – It’s a new take on a four-day, ten-hour work schedule and it’s launching at the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office. The remaining two hours each day would be paid under administrative leave as a dedicated time for activities that boost physical and mental health.

🔶 NMSP to conduct warrant round-up operations statewide – NMSP said this operation is a proactive measure in attempt to apprehend individuals with outstanding warrants. Individuals with outstanding warrants are encouraged to address these matters voluntarily and contact the law enforcement agency or appropriate court to which the warrant was issued.

🔶 Santa Fe breaks ground on next phase of 15-mile trail project – The Santa Fe River Greenway Project has been built in bits and pieces and now the latest phase will help bring those pieces together. On Wednesday, Santa Fe County officials broke ground on the third phase which will construct a trail from Siler Road to San Ysidro Crossing and connect the two previously completed sections.

🔶 New Mexico Fall Foliage Forecast 2024: When to see peak colors – This earlier onset could be a result of the hot summer we had in New Mexico. The state experienced the second hottest summer on record (with records going back to 1896). 2011 was the hottest summer on record in New Mexico, and that year leaves began changing around this same time.

🔶 Santa Fe city councilors debate relocating Soldiers’ Monument – The Soldiers’ Monument, meant to honor Civil War Union soldiers, stirred controversy for decades with one of its four plaques referring to Indigenous people as “savages.” Protestors took down the monument in 2020 and the city has been trying to figure out what to do next.

🔶 Edgewood nature park asking for donations to help take care of 1-year-old bear cub – Maggie, who is just one year old, was brought to the park about two months ago after struggling to survive in the wild. Her diet consists of special dog food, vegetables, fruit, and nuts but she eats around a thousand dollars worth of food a month and the park is asking for donations to keep her fed.

🔶 State officials look into potentially allowing ‘magic mushroom’ use in New Mexico – Wednesday, state lawmakers heard from the New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) and University of New Mexico (UNM) professors about their research and how it might work in our state. Unlike cannabis, experts said psilocybin would not be for daily use but rather used with medical supervision possibly twice a year.

🔶 Gov. Lujan Grisham responds to Texas placing razor wire facing New Mexico – The expansion came three days after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott posted on X that the state would triple its razor-wire border barriers to “deny illegal entry into our state and our country.” Earlier this year, the State of Texas extended its barrier at a spot where the river stops running parallel to Mexico and turns north into New Mexico.

🔶 City of Carlsbad approves trial ban on single-use plastic bags – The trial period will last for two years and will begin on February 1, 2025. Under the ban, restaurants and retailers within the city are not allowed to offer plastic bags to customers.

🔶 The Nature Conservancy plans to plant 5,000 seedlings on Hermit’s Peak Calf Canyon burn scar – The Nature Conservancy is inviting community members to help them plant 5,000 drought-resilient seedlings on the burn scar this weekend. The Hermit’s Peak Calf Canyon Fire scorched more than 340,000 acres between April and June of 2022 in the southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains and in San Miguel, Mora, and Taos counties.
