Heat continues into the weekend

Heat continues into the weekend

A front brings more mid-level moisture to the state today and will spark spotty showers and thunderstorms in the northern mountains, into parts of east-central, and northeast New Mexico through this afternoon. Most of this rain will evaporate before reaching the ground which could result in locally strong wind gusts. It’s going to be another hot day today, with more record and near-record high temperatures in Albuquerque, and in western/northwestern New Mexico. The cold front will bring a breezy east wind into Albuquerque this evening, with wind gusts up to 35 mph.

Very warm weekend temperatures continue all across New Mexico as we head through the weekend. Highs may only be a couple degrees cooler both Saturday and Sunday afternoon due to the cold front. Record and near-record high temperatures are likely once again on Monday, when Albuquerque is set to hit 90°.

Another cold front will move through the state from the northeast late Monday night through early Tuesday morning. This could bring a stronger wind into the Rio Grande Valley. It will also bring another slight cool-down as we head into first day of October, but warmer weather returns again for the rest of next week.
