Spotify says service is back after temporary outage on Sunday

NEW YORK (WPIX) — Did you run into problems trying to listen to a podcast or some music on Spotify, only for the streaming service to not work? You weren’t alone — thousands reported problems with Spotify on Sunday.

Just after 11 a.m. ET Sunday, over 12,000 people reported on Downdetector that Spotify was not working properly. Reports of an outage impacting both the app and the website kept climbing and exceeded 40,000 shortly after noon.

Users on social media said songs would not play past a couple of seconds.

Spotify’s support team initially told users on social media to reinstall the app, try using a different network, or log out and log back in before acknowledging a widespread problem.

“Our developers are looking into this as we speak,” Spotify’s support team said on X. “Hopefully we’ll have a fix soon!”

In a post to its community blog, Spotify said it had received reports of its service being “down across platforms,” adding that “the Support Site looks affected as well.”

“We’re currently aware of the situation and the relevant teams are working on it,” the post continued.

While that post remains active and without an update, Spotify posted to its status page on X that “everything’s looking much better now!” shortly after 1:30 p.m. ET.

Spotify also had issues with its website and app on Friday but did not provide any details on what sparked those problems.
