NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – From hot springs to holy dirt, New Mexico has an abundance of natural materials considered to have healing properties. But does the cure really come from those elements, or is it brought about by other factors? On this episode of New Mexico Strange, News 13 Host and Anchor Chad Brummett sat down with Author Ben Radford to discuss some of New Mexico’s most revered locations and the miracles alleged to have come from them.
Throughout history, people have been drawn to locations where various illnesses are said to have been miraculously healed. Two New Mexico spots in particular are well-known for that same reason: Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs and El Santuario de Chimayo.
Radford has spent time researching, interviewing community members, and considering the facts behind some of the miracles that are said to have taken place in New Mexico. The mineral springs of Ojo Caliente are home to many of those claims. “There is this notion that water is inherently healing, and, of course, that’s what all life comes from. Everything needs water,” said Radford, comparing the local waters to the metaphorical Fountain of Youth.
In this episode of New Mexico Strange, Radford speaks on the ideology that true healing comes from the Earth and tells the story of one man who claimed to have been healed by the holy dirt found in El Santuario de Chimayo.
