A Snippet Into The ‘How To Make Gravy’ Film Soundtrack Has Just Dropped

In anticipation of the film’s release – slated for Christmas 2024 – a snippet into the soundtrack for the film has just been announced. Australian musician Meg Washington’s new single The Hook is the first to be featured in the film, which features a sample of French producer Petit Biscuit’s 2017 hit Sunset Lover.

Upon hearing Sunset Lover “everywhere I went”, Washington said that the song “sounded like a perfect instrumental that was just aching for a melody and a lyric”.

“The song already feels like melancholy in paradise, I just wanted more detail.” she said in a press release.

Washington is an executive music producer on the film, who is working alongside director Nick Waterman to bring the story of Joe, Dan, Rita, Angus and Dolly to life.

In a statement, the duo stated that they worked to ensure the world and characters within the song are vivid, as a “testament to Paul’s songwriting”.

“It’s a uniquely Australian story made for film lovers and music fans alike. We can’t wait to share our adaptation of How To Make Gravy with the world.”

The soundtrack for the film is being released on limited vinyl on December 1st. Other artists included on the soundtrack are Nina Simone, Beddy Rays, Electric Fields, Brendan Maclean, and of course, Paul Kelly.

Since its release in 1996, Kelly’s How To Make Gravy has been a heartfelt singalong for families and those away from home during Christmas time. It’s become a staple for radio play and playlisting within the context of an Australian Christmas, and will ultimately reach new heights through its BINGE film adaptation.

How To Make Gravy will star Hugo Weaving, Daniel Henshall and French actress Agathe Rousselle, with several cameos from Australian musicians including Briggs and Dallas Woods.

You can preorder the How To Make Gravy Feature Film soundtrack on vinyl in four different colours here, and listen to The Hook on all streaming platforms now.
