Albuquerque man accused of killing more than a dozen dogs

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque man is facing more than a dozen charges after police say he set a barn on fire, killing fourteen dogs. Maximilliano Martinez made his first appearance in court Tuesday morning. He is facing 16 counts of extreme cruelty to animals and criminal damage to property.

Martinez was fighting with his significant other, who was staying with a couple at a home on Sanchez Rd. in southwest Albuquerque. On April 17, the barn behind the house was set on fire with sixteen dogs inside. 14 were killed. Investigators said the fire had two points of origin.
