ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A man accused of raping a number of women over the past three decades, but whose cases keep falling apart, is now facing a jury. Opening statements in Celso Montaño’s trial began on Monday.
Montaño’s record of rape allegations date back to 1996. In 2012, he was charged with raping four women but pleaded down to a misdemeanor charge. In 2019, he was connected to a rape kit from 2009, that case was dismissed due to the victim passing away. Another case was dismissed in 2020 when the victim refused to cooperate with officers. This trial stems from charges filed in 2023 where Montaño is accused of raping at least three women and threatening them.
