A man in his 40s who police say was armed with a knife when he was shot by Los Angeles police officers in Tarzana was in critical condition, police said.
LAPD officers responded at 9:30 p.m. Monday, May 12, to the 6200 block of Reseda Boulevard between Calvert and Erwin streets at an apartment complex. According to police, the call described the suspect as “possibly suffering from mental illness” and was on the second floor of the complex.
The suspect was described as yelling and armed with a knife and a frying pan. As officers approached the complex’s courtyard, they saw the suspect with a knife and at point point an officer shot the suspect, the LAPD said.
The suspect was hit by gunfire and taken to a hospital, where he was in critical condition.
What prompted the shooting was unclear.
