LOS ALAMOS, N.M. (KRQE) – The grandstand at the Brewer Arena in Los Alamos will be demolished this week.
The demolition comes after the stand was found unsafe, according to a report released in August. There were efforts to make the grandstand ADA accessible in 2023, but the report identified several issues like buckling columns, missing bracing, and cables.
“We knew it was a dangerous situation, so we wanted to get that old system out and protect the public life, and be ready to go back in full swing when we have a new design ready to go,” said Cory Styron, community services director for Los Alamos County.
Once the grandstand comes down, crews will install new ADA seating. Plans also include revamping the bathrooms, parking lot, and announcer booth.
They hope to have the project completed by summer.
