Ending the year with a bang, triple j has announced programming changes for 2025, including the departure of Bryce Mills after seven years.
Mills will depart triple j at the end of this year. His career at the radio station started with working at reception before he began to present Weekend Arvos, then triple j Breakfast (for four years), and eventually, getting to his current role as co-host of Lunch with Dave Woodhead.
Listeners have tuned in as Mills announced Hottest 100 winners, presented at triple j’s One Night Stand, and at festivals including Laneway and Splendour In The Grass. His last show will take place at 12 pm on Friday, 13 December.
Mills said of the news, “My whole experience at triple j has felt like a dream. From daydreaming about working here while sitting in class, to working on reception and greeting my heroes every morning to then actually getting to work as a triple j presenter!? I still can’t believe I somehow pulled it off.
“The listeners I’ve met and the friends I’ve made at triple j are what have made this experience something I’ll be telling stories about forever. I’ve been so lucky. But after 7 genuinely unforgettable years, I want to go out and see what else I can put my mind to. Watch this space!”
The news of Mills’ leaving comes after triple j revealed that its flagship heavy music programs would face the music, too.
The Racket will come to an end this year, with a new heavy music program beginning in January 2025. Its presenter, Lochlan Watt, is wrapping up at triple j on Tuesday, 10 December, at 9 pm. Meanwhile, short.fast.loud is moving to Double J in 2025 with presenter Josh Merriel in tow.
In 2025, triple j will introduce three new shows. The national broadcaster is bringing in a new alt-pop show hosted by Taiwanese Australian artist Tiffi, which will air on Wednesdays from 9 pm to 11 pm. Its aforementioned new heavy music program will launch in January, set to air on Tuesdays from 9 pm to 11 pm. Lastly, triple j will launch the new show Perfect Sunday, playing weekly every Sunday from 7 pm to 9 pm.
The station’s Hip Hop Show is also set to welcome a new host, A.GIRL. The Western Sydney artist said, “I’m so hyped to step into this role. Hip hop has always been about storytelling and connection, and I can’t wait to bring my love for the culture to triple j listeners every week – straight from the studio, the stage, or wherever I am in the world!” The Hip Hop Show will play on Thursdays from 9 pm to 11 pm.
That’s a wrap for the changes. Concetta & Luka will keep up triple j Breakfast from 6 am to 9 am Monday to Friday, Lucy Smith will remain on Mornings (9 am – 12 pm), Dave Goodhead will stay on Lunch (12 90 – 3:30 pm), Arvos will still be hosted by Abby & Tyrone, Hack with Dave Marchese will stay, Ash McGregor will stay on for Home & Hosed (7 pm – 9 pm), and programs including Mix Up, House Party, and The Nudge will retain their regular time slots.
Following its summer programming starting on Monday, 16 December, regular programming will resume on triple j on Monday, 6 January.
