NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Warmer weather continued to move in this afternoon with a few isolated showers and storms in the higher elevations of western and northern New Mexico. The rest of the state stayed dry and will continue to be dry and calm overnight. A spotty shower may be possible in the far northern mountains Sunday afternoon, but most of New Mexico, though, it will be warm, sunny, and dry for Mother’s Day.

Winds will start picking up again early next week. Westerly winds will bring in even warmer temperatures Monday and Tuesday afternoon, with highs well above average for this time of year. Unfortunately, the winds will gust as high as 30 to 55 mph on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon. This will bring a high fire danger back to the state, especially across southern New Mexico. A cold front will also sweep across the state Tuesday night, bringing high temperatures back down to around average again by Thursday.
