In September, E.ON Energie Romania reached the milestone of 400 turnkey photovoltaic power plants built and handed over to partner companies, with the total value of the projects exceeding €75 million.
The photovoltaic systems have been installed at E.ON partners’ sites, covering a total area of over 374,000 square meters and comprising approximately 187,000 solar modules.
Together, the 400 plants provide an installed capacity of 84.3 MWp and generate around 105 GWh of renewable electricity annually – enough to cover the yearly consumption of a large Romanian city such as Iași or Brașov. At the same time, the systems contribute to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 19,000 tons per year, equivalent to the annual emissions of roughly 10,000 petrol cars.
“By developing customized green energy solutions, we help companies better control their energy costs, become more competitive, and be better prepared to face market changes,” said Claudia Griech, CEO of E.ON Energie Romania.
Among the recent projects is one completed for Romanian brick manufacturer Cemacon, located in the Recea industrial park (Sălaj County). At this site, E.ON installed a rooftop photovoltaic system consisting of 2,176 monocrystalline solar modules, generating on average 976 MWh of green electricity per year.
Another project was delivered for Continental Automotive Romania in Timiș County, where a system of 1,440 photovoltaic panels was installed, with an installed capacity of 655 kWp. This system is expected to produce around 715 MWh annually, reducing CO₂ emissions by approximately 152 tons per year.
Looking ahead, E.ON Energie Romania plans to expand further into Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) contracts, offering partner companies long-term, predictable energy prices. The first such contract was signed earlier this year with Webasto’s factory in Arad. Valued at €1 million, the project was developed, implemented, financed, and operated by E.ON Energie Romania. Under the 15-year agreement, the entire output of renewable energy produced – approximately 1,530 MWh per year – will be delivered to the Arad-based company at a fixed price, adjusted annually.
