Ethel Cain has expressed her thoughts on the US presidential election results, saying that American politics is a “breeding ground for violent hatred”. She also tells Trump supporters that she hopes “that peace never finds you.”

The singer-songwriter shared on her Tumblr page yesterday (November 6), talking about how the country got to this point, believing that voters would “vote for and align themselves with anything for a taste of power and control that makes them feel a little less helpless.”

“It’s not even about Trump at this point. He’s gonna get in office and do whatever he does and it’s gonna be a mess but whatever. This is indicative of deeper problem.”

“This is just the ugly consequence of the already present reality in this country that we all just despise each other. There is no solidarity and there is no love,” she continues. “Trump being in office or not doesn’t change the fact that America is a breeding ground for violent hatred.”

She then addresses Trump supporters directly: “However, I must say, if you voted for Trump, I hope that peace never finds you.”

“Instead, I hope clarity strikes you someday like a clap of lightning and you have to live the rest of your life with the knowledge and guilt of what you’ve done and who you are as a person.”

She does, however, end her post on an actionable note. “Shit is so bleak but the world keeps spinning until it doesn’t, I guess. We can’t count on the government for literally even a shred of progress or hope so just keep up the good fight in your own personal lives. That’s literally the only thing to be done at this point,” she wrote. “Stay safe out there. Maybe buy a gun.” Read it in full here.

Since the election results were unveiled earlier this week (November 5), musicians have been vocal about their disappointment and fears leading up to Trump’s inauguration come January 2025.

At her Nashville concert last night (November 6), Billie Eilish decried Trump as “someone who hates women so, so deeply”. Meanwhile, Jack White shared a blistering attack on Trump and the election results: “It’s absolutely dumbfounding that this con man succeeded in pulling the wool over so many Americans eyes not once, but twice.”

In January, Cain will release her sophomore album ‘Perverts’. The 90-minute release is preceded by ‘Punish’, which NME awarded five stars.

NME‘s Kristen S. Hé found the track “completely removed from any notion of Ethel Cain as a pop artist.”

“It’s a devastating introduction to ‘Perverts’, which promises to be the first truly riveting release of 2025 – and perhaps one of the most terrifying.”
