Family of APD officer killed in hit and run months ago still searching for answers

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – For the family of former Albuquerque Police Department Officer Bianca Quinta, life without her has been filled with a grief too heavy to bear. “We’re all trying our best to live life without her, and it’s been difficult,” said Maricruz Dominguez, Quintana’s younger sister.

She said that last August, Quintana was leaving a family member’s house after an argument. Quintana was walking near Coors Blvd. and Chapulin Rd. in the South Valley just after midnight when police said she was hit and killed by a driver who then took off.

Nine months later, the family is still looking for answers. “I pray about it every night. Not just an answer just for my sake, but for her children. It’s getting harder on them every single day that passes. Her husband, he’s he walks around with a broken heart, and it’s hard to mend something you didn’t break,” said Dominguez.

Her family is now speaking out and pleading for anyone with information to come forward. She also made a plea directly to the person responsible for taking the life of the mother of two young boys. “You don’t even have to say sorry, just come forward,” said Dominguez. “We would hope that you would do the right thing, that you’d have the courage to come forward and just tell us what happened so we can give answers to her children who need her desperately.”

Meanwhile, Dominguez wears a picture of her sister around her neck while remembering Quintana as a fighter and a role model. “She always pushed everybody to do their best. She always wanted to see people live to their fullest capacity,” she said. “I just wanted to be just like her. I wanted to follow in her steps, and I still do.”

Quintana was first sworn into the Los Lunas Police Department in 2020. She joined APD in 2022. She was close to earning her bachelor’s in criminal justice. Dominguez said Central New Mexico Community College gave Quintana the degree posthumously.
