Five juveniles charged in connection to beating pregnant woman, family in Santa Fe

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) — A total of five juveniles were detained by Santa Fe police on Wednesday morning after a family, including a pregnant woman, was attacked at a local Burger King. All five are facing a myriad of charges, including assault and child endangerment.

Police responded to the Burger King on Zafarano Drive at about 9 a.m. on Wednesday after receiving a report of six armed juveniles attacking a family. The caller said the suspects had fled on foot towards the Zafarano Shopping area.

Upon arriving, officers found two male and three female juveniles from 12 to 16 years old, as well as a 19-year-old male walking towards Todos Santos. All six individuals were detained. Officers found the juveniles were not armed during their arrest, but they found the suspected firearm in a nearby backyard.

The adult male was found not to be involved. The two juvenile male suspects were found to have active arrest warrants. They were arrested and booked at the San Juan County Juvenile Detention Facility. The Juvenile Probation Office was contacted – they did not authorize incarceration for the three females, and they were released to their families.

“Because JPO did not authorize the incarceration of the juvenile offenders for the incident that took place on July 2, 2025,” Santa Fe police said in a news release on the Thursday. “The following charges were forwarded through to the Juvenile Probation Office for all five juveniles…”

Three of the juveniles, including both of the males, have the following criminal history, according to Santa Fe police:

  • Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon
  • Unlawful Taking of a Motor Vehicle
  • Criminal Damage to Property (Felony)
  • Bomb Threats (Bringing a Firearm onto School Grounds)
  • Unlawful Use / Possession of a Firearm by a Person Under 19
  • Negligent Use of a Deadly Weapon
  • Tampering with Evidence
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Possession of Synthetic Cannabinoids
  • Disorderly Conduct
  • Possession of Burglary Tools
  • Receiving/transferring Stolen Motor Vehicles
  • Burglary 
  • Several Juvenile Probation Office Violations 

The family who was attacked includes a father, a pregnant mother, and their young child who were eating at the Burger King. The mother was taken to a local hospital for medical care. Her eye was injured from being struck by the hands and feet of the females.

This case is under investigation.
