Knauf Insulation, a subsidiary of the German group Knauf, has officially inaugurated its new glass mineral wool production facility in Târnăveni, Mureș County. The 140 million euros investment transforms the Romanian factory into a regional hub, with an annual production capacity of over 75,000 tons of glass mineral wool, serving customers in Romania as well as across Central and Eastern Europe.
“Knauf Insulation brings decades of expertise and proven solutions to help Romania adopt the best European practices in energy efficiency. Our plant in Târnăveni, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, has an annual production capacity of 75,000 tons of glass mineral wool — enough to insulate up to 200,000 homes every year,” said Alexander Knauf, member of the Knauf Group.
According to official data, natural gas consumption in residential buildings could be reduced by more than 50% through modern insulation solutions, directly contributing to the achievement of European climate goals. Currently, more than 85% of buildings in Romania were constructed before modern energy efficiency standards were introduced.
Adrian Garofeanu, Managing Director of Knauf Insulation Romania & Bulgaria, stated: “The opening of this factory is an investment in the future: its products are made using ECOSE Technology®, offering excellent thermal, acoustic and fire-safety performance with a lower environmental impact. Romania is becoming a regional hub for innovation and sustainability, and the Târnăveni facility contributes to energy-efficient renovations, job creation, and the development of local communities and the economy.”
With over 40 years of experience in the insulation industry, Knauf Insulation currently employs nearly 6,000 people across 40 countries and operates 28 production units in 15 countries.
