Google Study: AI Adoption Could Boost Romania’s GDP by 5% in 10 Years

Google has released the results of a study on the impact of generative artificial intelligence in Romania, carried out by Implement Consulting Group.

If Romania widely adopts generative artificial intelligence, the GDP could increase by 14-16 billion euros in the next ten years (meaning by 5%), according to the study “The economic opportunity of AI”, commissioned by Google.

The research covers the region of Central Europe and of Eastern Europe (CEE) and analyzes in detail four countries, including Romania.

The study also shows that 42% of jobs in Romania are likely to remain unaffected by generative AI, while 54% of jobs are expected to work
together with generative AI and see a boost in productivity. Only 4% of jobs are estimated to be highly exposed to generative AI, leading
to some job closures. However, the productivity boost from generative AI is expected to create new jobs replacing those lost to automation.

According to Google report, CEE performs relatively well in early AI adoption drivers that ensure a safe and reliable AI-ready environment. However, the region falls behind EU average and global leaders in all adoption drivers.
Romania has the lowest AI adoption in CEE, indicating they could be less AI-ready than the CEE average.
