Los Tigres del Norte, for decades considered by fans as La Voz del Pueblo (or the voice of the pueblo), is set to perform at the Kamala Harris campaign rally in Phoenix on Thursday (Oct. 31).
The appearance aligns with the Mexican band’s continued support for Democratic candidates during U.S. presidential elections. In the past, Los Tigres has endorsed Hillary Clinton (2016) and Joe Biden (2020), and has used its platform to get Latinos to go out and vote. This year, an estimated 36.2 million Latinos are eligible to vote, up from 32.3 million in 2020, according to the Pew Research Center.
The members of Los Tigres formally voiced their support for Vice President Kamala Harris in July after President Joe Biden dropped the presidential race. “Now we can realize the dream that we all want, and that she will be elected on this occasion, for various reasons,” Jorge Hernández, the norteño band’s leader and lead singer, told Billboard at the time. “We invite you to vote, those who can vote, and make their own decision. We will be fighting at any time to continue communicating to the whole nation the great importance of voting.”
The rally in Phoenix will be held at Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre, which seats approximately 20,000 people. Harris is expected to speak at the event, which is happening only five days before Election Day on Tuesday (Nov. 5). The presidential candidate will then travel to Las Vegas for a second rally, where Jennifer Lopez is set to speak and Mexican rock band Maná will perform. Both events are part of the Harris-Walz ticket’s When We Vote We Win concert and rally series. The series of events continues on Friday (Nov. 1), with Cardi B scheduled to speak and GloRilla performing at the Milwaukee, Wisc., rally.
