Increasing winds ahead of next storm system

It was a calm and relatively quiet day across the state with temperatures near or slightly above average for highs. Temperatures will be even warmer tomorrow as westerly winds increase across the state. A High Wind Warning has been issued for portions of Otero county where wind gusts could reach 75 mph at times. A High Wind Watch has also been issued for portions of east-central New Mexico for Sunday as well, as winds could gust up to 60 mph at times.

A fast-moving storm system will move into New Mexico next Monday. Precipitation with this storm continues to trend downward, with the best chance for snow in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Light snow will also be likely across the peaks of the rest of the northern mountains. Snow totals will be light with only up to 3″ at most. A few flurries to a dusting of snow is also possible across the I-25 corridor in northern New Mexico and east-central New Mexico. Temperatures will be colder too on Tuesday afternoon as drier air moves in. The coldest air of the season will move on Wednesday morning.

A warming trend will begin Wednesday afternoon. Temperatures will be back up to around average again for this time of year by next Thursday.
