Introducing the 2024 Beacon-News/Courier-News Softball All-Area Team

Among state’s best, Class 4A champion St. Charles North and 4A qualifier Oswego lead the way on first and second teams.

First Team

Jaelynn Anthony, Oswego, sophomore, pitcher/infielder: Went 15-6 with 1.96 ERA. Batted .383 with 28 runs, eight doubles, 13 home runs and 39 RBIs. Third team all-state. All-conference.

Kiyah Chavez, Oswego, junior, catcher: Batted .496 with 61 hits, 10 doubles, 12 home runs and 46 RBIs. Did not strike out once. First team all-state. All-conference. Committed to Iowa.

Grace Hautzinger, St. Charles East, senior, pitcher: Went 16-7 with 2.18 ERA and 240 strikeouts in 157 2/3 innings. Allowed only 28 walks. Second team all-state. All-conference. Committed to Rollins.

Aubriella Garza, Oswego, junior, pitcher/infielder: Batted .376 with 40 runs, 12 doubles, two triples, 10 home runs and 40 RBIs. Also went 9-3 in circle. Third team all-state. All-conference. Committed to Northern Illinois.

Genevieve Gonzales, Metea Valley, senior, infielder: Batted .510 with 52 hits, 15 doubles, two home runs and 41 RBIs. Second team all-state. All-conference.

Kayla Kersting, Yorkville, sophomore, catcher: Batted .442 with five doubles, three triples, nine home runs and 30 RBIs. Caught 10 runners stealing. Second team all-state. All-conference.

Hannah Laub, Waubonsie Valley, senior, outfielder/pitcher: Batted .576 with 62 hits, 39 runs, 18 doubles, five triples, 16 home runs and 45 RBIs. First team all-state. DuPage Valley Conference’s player of the year. Committed to Army for basketball.

Paige Murray, St. Charles North, junior, pitcher: Went 19-5 with 1.61 ERA and 229 strikeouts in 169 innings. Only allowed 28 walks. First team all-state. All-conference.

Bria Riebel, Hampshire, junior, infielder: Batted .559 with 62 hits, 22 doubles, nine home runs, and 50-plus RBIs. Second team all-state. All-conference. Committed to South Dakota State.

Kodi Rizzo, Newark, senior, pitcher/outfielder: Went 16-4 with 0.51 ERA and 238 strikeouts in 109 innings. Gave up just 40 hits and 22 walks. Batted .479 with 56 runs, 16 stolen bases, eight doubles, six triples, 13 home runs and 43 RBIs. First team all-state. All-conference. Committed to Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Hayden Sujack, St. Charles East, sophomore, outfielder/catcher: Batted .415 with 26 runs, 17 doubles, 11 home runs and 39 RBIs. First team all-state. All-conference.

Sara Tarr, West Aurora, junior, infielder: Batted .510 with 51 hits, 43 runs, 22 steals, seven home runs and 27 RBIs. Second team all-state. All-conference. Committed to Miami of Ohio.

Second Team

Finley Anderson, Oswego East, senior, outfielder: Batted .462 with 45 runs, 11 stolen bases, 15 walks, 14 doubles, five triples and14 RBIs. Second team all-state. All-conference. Committed to Minnesota State-Mankato.

McKayla Anderson, Dundee-Crown, senior, pitcher/outfielder: Went 12-9 with 2.73 ERA and 281 strikeouts in 187 1/3 innings. Batted .371 with 18 doubles, one triple, four home runs and 28 RBIs. Second team all-state. All-conference. Committed to SIU Edwardsville.

Samantha Gaca, St. Charles East, senior, catcher: Batted .348 with 13 runs, 10 doubles, four home runs and 13 RBIs. Second team all-state. All-conference. Committed to Maryville.

Kate Gambro, Aurora Central Catholic, junior, pitcher/utility: Batted .441 with 38 runs, eight triples, seven doubles, six home runs and 33 RBIs. Went 6-1 with 3.06 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 50 1/3 innings. Second team all-state. All-conference.

Maddie Hernandez, St. Charles North, senior, infielder: Batted .380 with 13 runs, five doubles, one triple, four home runs and 14 RBIs. Second team all-state. All-conference. Committed to Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Anna Kiel, South Elgin, junior, pitcher/first base: Went 11-6 with 2.15 ERA and 149 strikeouts in 107 innings. Allowed only 30 walks. Batted .395 with nine doubles, three home runs and 33 RBIs. Second team all-state. Upstate Eight Conference’s pitcher of the year.

Jensen Krantz, Yorkville, senior, first base: Batted .417 with 20 runs, 13 doubles, five home runs and 28 RBIs. Second team all-state. All-conference. Committed to Purdue.

Olivia Liguori, Bartlett, senior, catcher/infielder/outfielder: Batted .486 with 42 runs, 18 stolen bases, 13 doubles, nine home runs and 54 RBIs. Second team all-state. All-conference. Committed to Hillsdale.

Corina Miller, Aurora Central Catholic, sophomore, pitcher: Went 11-3 with 2.81 ERA and 102 strikeouts in 84 2/3 innings. Gave up only 22 walks. Batted .429 with one home run and 10 RBIs. Second team all-state. All-conference.

Mackenzie Patterson, St. Charles North, junior, outfielder: Batted .378 with 27 runs, three doubles, one triple, three home runs, 20 RBIs. Second team all-state. All-conference.

Anna Sanders, Burlington Central, senior, infielder/outfielder: Batted .455 with 50 hits, 37 runs, 10 doubles, two triples, three home runs and 27 RBIs. All-conference. Committed to Minnesota Duluth.

Reese Valha, Metea Valley, senior, outfielder: Batted .430 with 38 runs, eight doubles, four triples, seven home runs and 32 RBIs. Second team all-state. All-conference. Committed to Wisconsin-Parkside.
