In a new cover story interview with Elle Magazine, Kesha revealed her plans to “dismantle” the music industry “piece by piece.”
Discussing her newfound independence and starting her own record label, Kesha Records, the TiK ToK singer said she has a ten-year plan to instil change in the music industry.
“The music industry should be fucking terrified of me,” she told the publication. “Because I’m about to make some major moves and shift this shit. I really want to dismantle it piece by piece and shine light into every corner. I hope my legacy is making sure it never happens to anybody ever again.”
Kesha celebrated parting ways with her former management and record label in December, going independent. She released her fifth album, Gag Order, in May last year.
In June last year, Kesha and producer Dr Luke settled a defamation lawsuit out of court, weeks before their trial was set to take place.
Dr Luke (real name Lukasz Gottwald) sued Kesha after she filed a suit alleging Gottwald sexually, physically, verbally and emotionally abused her since the age of 18 when she first signed with him. Kesha came forward with her allegations in 2014.
The legal fight between the pair had many twists and turns. Kesha dropped her sexual assault lawsuit in California in 2016, looking to fight in New York courts instead.
The defamation case continued over time, with Kesha naming Gag Order after her legal battle with the ex-producer and label owner.
Kesha recently released the exuberant single Joyride, which she said acts as a “feminist act of defiance.” She also has a new LP on the way.
