Lettuce have officially unveiled a new collaborative show with the Colorado Symphony, set for Denver’s Mission Ballroom on March 2. This forthcoming performance at the sprawling indoor amphitheater marks both the Philadelphia-bred jam-funk ensemble’s third meeting with the esteemed orchestra and its largest solo symphonic staging to date.
On the occasion of today’s announcement, guitarist Adam “Shmeeans” Smirnoff retraces the origins of the pairing. “In 2018 we embarked on an incredible journey of musical collaboration with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra,” he shared in a statement. “It was our first time ever playing with a symphony and we were extremely exhilarated and felt incredibly grateful to be able to have such an experience. You can feel, through the music, just how special this moment was for us, the orchestra, and all who attended Boettcher Hall that evening in Denver.”
Lettuce began its relationship with the Colorado Symphony through a Nov. 10, 2018 performance at Boettcher Concert Hall in the Denver Performing Arts Complex. In the course of that fated evening, the ensemble delivered two full sets of originals brought to new heights by the elaborate backing, as well as towering treatments of fan-favorite covers of Curtis Mayfield’s “Move On Up” and Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants to Rule The World.” The funk stars crossed paths with the vaunted orchestra again in 2022, when the symphony reprised eight of those fan-favorite cuts during a co-headline staging with Tower of Power.
“For a bunch of friends who started a band writing their own versions of funk mixed with Hip Hop beats, we never imagined we’d get to a point where we get to perform our tunes with an entire symphony,” Lettuce drummer Adam Deitch reflects. “To say performing with the Colorado Symphony was a dream is an understatement. It was a milestone in our creative journey and we are so proud to present another collaborative symphonic funk journey.”
Tickets for Lettuce’s performance with the Colorado Symphony will go on sale tomorrow, Nov. 1 at 10 a.m. MT. For tickets and more information, visit lettucefunk.com/tour.
