ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Black Friday shopping isn’t just about getting your hands latest tech, appliances or toys.
Some families chose to kick off the holiday season by adopting a new best friend, “We’re a staple, they come, they see us, they see an animal, they take one home. And it’s the most wonderful thing,” said senior adoption counselor at Lucky Paws, Sandra. Duran.
Albuquerque Animal Welfare says the holidays are a wonderful time to think about expanding your family with a shelter pet in need. That’s why the department offered a special deal called “All Aboard!” this Black Friday.

And the first day of the event was a big hit within the first hour 10 out of the 35 pets inside their lucky paws location at Coronado Center found a new home.
“As soon as we walked in, my son saw the dog, and she immediately ran up to the door. She was immediately being nice, very nice, and small. I just felt like she would make a great member of the family, a very playful dog, someone who would also get along with my kids too, a companion of my family,” said Delano.
Adoption counselors were able to match guinea pigs, cats, and dogs by answering questions to ensure that each pet fits their owner’s lifestyle.
All adoption fees are waived from the 29th to December 1st in an effort to clear the shelters…which makes it easier for families who’ve been looking to add a furry bundle of joy to their family.
For those interested in getting a pet, each adoption includes a spay or neuter, a pet tag, microchip, vaccinations, and one free initial vet visit.
Those adopting dogs will also receive one free dog training class. This adoption event runs through Sunday at all Animal Welfare locations.
