Man on Albuquerque’s most wanted list arrested in Rhode Island

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A man who was on the Albuquerque Police Department’s ‘Most Wanted List’ has been arrested in Rhode Island. Isaiah Elijah Anthony Hayes is accused in connection of the 2020 shooting death of 15-year-old Angelique Anderson.

On May 2, 2020, police say they got a call about a fight happening at Hawthorne Elementary School near Copper and Wyoming. Investigators say Anderson arrived in a vehicle with Hayes and three other people to confront another group at the school park. Witnesses said Hayes, who was 20-years-old at the time, was armed with a gun. At the park, authorities allege Hayes got into a fight with another man. A criminal complaint states that after the fight, the two men got in their cars, but Hayes pulled out a gun and started shooting at the other car. A shootout began between both cars, and a bullet struck Anderson in the face, killing her. Police said Hayes threatened the other passengers and then dumped Anderson’s body down the road.

APD says Hayes was also a suspect in a separate incident involving the alleged use of a firearm prior to the shooting. Hayes faces charges including abuse of a child resulting in death, kidnapping and bribery or intimidation of a witness.
