NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – The New Mexico Motor Vehicle Division is warning residents about an ongoing scam involving text messages claiming to be from MVD or other local government agencies and asking for payment.

MVD says it does not contact any customers to issue threats or demand a payment and any message doing so is a scam. Anyone who receives a scam message is encouraged to report the message, email or phone number and do not click on any links. MVD will only contact customers by mail with official letterhead.
