The song was the first to be penned for the band’s 18th studio album and features allusions to the biblical story of Cain and Abel. ‘Frogs’ features a twinkling piano riff that plays throughout the song with Cave singing: “Ushering in the week he knelt down / Crushed his brother’s head in with a bone / It’s my great privilege / Oh babe, to walk you home,” referencing the first murder in the Bible.

Speaking about the track in a press release, Cave said: “The sheer exuberance of a song like ‘Frogs’, it just puts a big fucking smile on my face.” ‘Frogs’ is the second single to be released from ‘Wild God’. The LP’s titular song was released as the lead single back in March.

Set for release on August 30, ‘Wild God’ will be comprised of 10 songs and see the band move between themes of convention and experimentation – introducing left-turns that heighten the rich imagery and emotive narratives created by the frontman. You can pre-order the LP here.

“I hope the album has the effect on listeners that it’s had on me. It bursts out of the speaker, and I get swept up with it. It’s a complicated record, but it’s also deeply and joyously infectious,” Cave said of the upcoming release.

“There is never a masterplan when we make a record. The records rather reflect back the emotional state of the writers and musicians who played them. Listening to this, I don’t know, it seems we’re happy,” he added. “There’s no fucking around with this record. When it hits, it hits. It lifts you. It moves you. I love that about it.”

In preparation for the album’s release, the band have shared part one of ‘The Making Of Wild God’ featuring Radiohead‘s Colin Greenwood.

Directed by Megan Cullen and recorded at Miraval Studios in France, the new exclusive footage provides a behind-the-scenes glimpse into how Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds created their LP.

Last year, following the release of his book Faith, Hope & Carnage, Nick Cave spoke to NME and revealed what fans can expect from his upcoming music.

When asked if he was pouring more love into his music, he responded: “I don’t know about the music, but these days I feel a more urgent need to connect with people.

“There’s a kind of duty in that, that maybe I didn’t feel before. That I have at my disposal something that’s very valuable – to make music and I don’t want to squander that opportunity in phoning in gigs or doing half-hearted attempts. Everyone is as important as each other.”

Cave also recently announced a 2024 UK and Europe tour set to kick off in Germany this September, continuing through October before a UK leg in November. You can buy tickets here (UK and Ireland) and here (Europe).

In other new, the musician’s wife – Susie Cave – shared that her fashion label The Vampires Wife has shuttered.
