NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – The New Mexico Department of Transportation confirmed it is working to repair a hole in the I-40 west bridge deck near exit 273 in Santa Rosa.

NMDOT maintenance patrol was informed Wednesday morning about the hole on the bridge deck, according to NMDOT Public Information Officer Travis Martinez.
The repairs are expected to take two to three days. Delays are expected, as lane closures will be in place during working hours and removed at the end of the work day, NMDOT said.
Martinez told KRQE the bridge is still safe to drive on as “The overall superstructure is in satisfactory condition.”
A photo sent in by a viewer showed a hole in the bridge deck visible from road 4 A D under the interstate. Next to that hole were road signs and what appeared to be wooden boards attached to the bottom of the bridge deck.
When asked about the purpose of the miscellaneous signs, Martinez told KRQE via email, “Repairs to the deck have been performed in the past, it looks like they utilized old signs for forming material. The forms are placed after deteriorating concrete is removed in order to place new high-strength concrete.”
KRQE News 13 is in contact with NMDOT and is working to get more clarification on the scope of repairs for the overpass. This is a developing story.
