A Rope remake has been rumored to be in the works for some time now, and according to a new report from Jeff Sneider of The Insneider, the film has found its director.

What do we know about the Rope remake?

According to Sneider’s new report, rumors that David Fincher, Charlize Theron, or even Rupert Goold have been attached to the project are all false. Sneider mentioned that sources close to him have said that Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game) is the actual director attached to helm the project.

For Tyldum, it would be his first movie since 2016’s Passengers, which starred Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt. Tyldum also directed the critically acclaimed 2011 film The Imitation Game, which starred Benedict Cumberbatch and received eight Academy Award nominations, earning a win for Best Adapted Screenplay.

No casting information was mentioned by Sneider, however, so it’s unknown who, if anyone at all yet, has been tapped to star in the project. The report mentions that Davis Entertainment will produce the project, with John Davis, Jordan Davis, and John Fox all set to join the project in a producing role.

Originally released in 1948, Rope is based on the 1929 play of the same name by Patrick Hamilton. Directed by the legendary Alfred Hitchcock, Rope tells the story of two brilliant young men who strangle a former classmate and then throw a party, all while trying to prove their superiority by committing what they deem to be the perfect murder.

The original film starred the legendary Jimmy Stewart, John Dall, Farley Granger, Cedric Hardwicke, Constance Collier, and Joan Chandler. Although it wasn’t critically acclaimed at its release, Rope has gone on to be seen as a classic film in the crime thriller genre.
