Romania Faces Both Storms and Heatwaves

Temperatures continue to rise throughout the country, and in the second part of the day there will be showers, thunderstorms and hail, especially in the mountains.

Today there will be maximum temperatures of 33 degrees in the south and east, close to heatwave. Starting from the afternoon there will be showers, electrical phenomena, hail in the mountains, phenomena that can also be reported in other areas – center and west. In Bucharest today it will be 33 degrees Celsius and no rain is expected.

The weather changes from Thursday afternoon when there will be brief summer showers. Temperatures will reach the threshold of heatwave on Saturday and the thermal discomfort will increase, the air becoming unbreathable. At sea it will be beach weather and up to 31 degrees will be recorded on the beach.

​Monday, June 3 was the first heat wave day in Romania for 2024, with temperatures exceeding the 35 C threshold. The closest to the heat wave threshold was in mid-April, when the maximum was +33.7 C in Bechet.
The National Meteorology Administration (ANM) forecast shows that the entire month of June will have higher than normal temperatures.
On Monday at noon, it was +35.1 C at the Bucharest Filaret and Fetești weather stations, and the 34 C threshold was exceeded at several weather stations in Muntenia. The lowest temperatures at noon were below 11 C, at the weather stations at the Omu and Țarcu peaks, at over 2,000 m altitude.
ANM estimates show that June will have above average temperatures in Romania in all four weeks. And in the following days it will be hot: Tuesday will be 32 C, Wednesday 33 C, and Thursday 31 C. Bucharest will be 33 C on Wednesday and Friday and 34 C on Saturday.
