San Cisco Helps WA Wheatbelt Town Cuballing Get Its Groove On

WA’s Wheatbelt town of Cuballing is set to hold its first Cuby GrooveFest this weekend. The three-day celebration of music and the arts will run from Friday, September 13, to Sunday, September 15.

Nestled in the heart of Dryandra Country and with a population of around 500, the town will host an array of Australian artists, including San CiscoHumble ArmadaDes Cortez, and Alison Parade.

The excursion to Cuballing marks the start of a big Spring season for Fremantle (Walyalup)-based San Cisco, with their national tour kicking off at the end of October. Celebrating the release of their fifth album released earlier this year, the Under The Light tour will see the trio joined by openers Touch Sensitive and Haiku Hands.

In a cover story with The Music, San Cisco’s lead vocalist, Jordi Davieson, said of Under The Light with Bryget Chrisfield: “This record is a lot more reflective, and we’re looking at things from a lot more angles as opposed to, like, ‘Here’s a love song. I love you. I love you this much…’ It’s more like, ‘This is intricate, in the weeds of what relationships are like – with friends, with family, with archetypes that you maybe steer away from – and how you interpret them…’

“We’ve grown up a bit, and it’s a little bit more all-encompassing; they’re not just cut-and-dried breakup songs or love songs.”

San Cisco will also be joined in Cuballing by local psychedelic rockers Humble Armada, who are sure to play their fresh single Midas, released earlier this week.

In addition to the ticketed music offerings, festivalgoers can also enjoy a range of free events, including line dancing, poetry readings, and a live mural painting by WA visual artist James Giddy.

The Cuballing Shire says the festival aims to be “a celebration of the area’s rural lifestyle, unique surrounds and enduring heritage,” focusing on “engaging, unifying, and strengthening the community through shared experiences of music, creativity, and nature.”

Cuby GrooveFest runs from Friday, September 13, to Sunday, September 15. Tickets and more information are available here.
