Santa Ana Pueblo reacquires 60,000 acres of land

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – More than 60,000 acres of land is being given back to the Pueblo of Santa Ana. Officials from the Bureau of Indian Affairs signed the land into the trust for the Tamayakwikee Nee Puu.

The land holds traditional importance to the pueblo of Santa Ana and was formerly part of the King Alamo Ranch, owned by the family of former Governor Bruce King. “The Pueblo intends to maintain the property in it’s natural state, in order to protect the integrity of the cultural sites and areas,” said Patricia Mattingly Regional Director with the Department of Indian Affairs.

The ranch went up for sale for $33 million in 2016. It was sold to the Santa Ana Pueblo for an undisclosed amount.
