ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Valley High School in Albuquerque hosted a signing day event for its seniors who are committing to apprenticeships in trades such as mechanics, carpentry, welding and more.
Teachers and professionals say programs like this are essential for students who don’t plan to pursue college. “It’s been absolutely amazing. These students are students who want to be in this program, so that’s made it super easy,” welding instructor Shawn Coffey said, “every one of my students has OSHA 10 certification.”
The signing day event commemorated the students completion of three to four years in the school’s “Pathways” program. The program allows students to participate in hands-on training in trades while earning their diplomas.
