TAOS COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – Twenty-seven-year-old Peyton Sarson has built a reputation for herself in Taos County. She’s known as the ‘off-grid mobile groomer,’ bringing her salon ‘Bubble and Brush’ right to your front door.
“It’s the best being able to go to them, having the freedom to meet an animal in their home where often they’re a little bit more relaxed, a little bit less stressed,” explained Sarson.
Sarson likes to specifically cater to pet parents with mobility issues or those who live too remotely to access regular grooming sessions. “I noticed where I was that there were a lot of older people and special dogs that didn’t like to travel to salons. So I figured I would come to them,” she says.
She offers a long list of services for both cats and dogs, such as nail trims, brush outs, and even funky hairdos. “People told me that this would be a great idea and that there was need for it,” she emphasized.
With a list of clients in hand, she packs up her Subaru for the day, along with a solar power generator for her grooming tools and clippers, and hits the road. “These people, you know, they all have dogs and they all have dogs that they care about and, and want to make sure they’re comfortable, you know?” said Sarson.
A lot of the pets she works with are farm dogs or spend more time outdoors, often running through sagebrush, leading to issues like matted fur. “So getting started with the types of dogs that I often work at can be slow, but because I’m not in a corporate structure, I do have the ability to earn the dog’s trust,” she explained.
As her business continues to blossom in its first year, she hopes to one day get a van to be able to offer more services.
