Earlier this week, pop superstar Katy Perry teased that a special Australian guest will join her on stage for this weekend’s AFL Grand Final to perform her hit debut single I Kissed A Girl from 2008.
While coverage of Perry’s anticipated performance at the Grand Final has mostly been wrapped in drama and disagreements over the artist’s setlist, eyes have turned elsewhere after Perry revealed to a group of media and fans on Thursday morning that she would be performing her classic hit with “an Australian artist that you don’t know about”.
On Sunrise, the artist said the guest was “a favourite Australian artist that I look up to. She is going to be singing a little bit with me, and I’ll be singing a little bit with her…I’ve been sworn to secrecy, locked up, chains”.
These little hints within Perry’s speech have led fans to believe the guest she is talking about is in fact, Australian singer Tina Arena. Nothing confirms these suspicions more than snapshots of the Chains singer rehearsing alongside Katy Perry at the MCG in Melbourne were exclusively reported by the Daily Mail.
According to the source, plans to have Kylie Minogue perform had fallen through, leaving Tina Arena to step up to the plate. Artist and professional swimmer Cody Simpson will also take to the field to sing the national anthem ahead of this weekend’s game. Perry will of course headline the show.
But live performances don’t stop there for Perry, as she announced earlier this week that tickets for her Lifetimes tour will go on presale today. It’ll be her first Australian tour in six years, and she’ll be taking it to several major cities across the country, including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.
Expected not to run into any trouble over setlist agreements, Perry promised Aussie fans on Instagram that “It’s a party and you’re all invited! Get ready for a high energy singalong to all your faves”.
