Trial underway for man accused in fatal road rage shooting

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The trial is underway for Tristan Salais, accused in a fatal road rage shooting in 2022. Jesse Lovato, 50, was killed in the shooting near Montano and Rio Grande in Albuquerque.

Court records show Albuquerque police, Bernalillo County deputies and Albuquerque Fire Rescue personnel responded to the crash involving 50-year-old Jesse Lovato who was driving to work when he crashed into a wall after crossing the bridge on Montano near Rio Grande. When first responders arrived at the scene, they saw Lovato had been shot in the neck. According to the criminal complaint, Salais first identified himself to responding officers as a witness to the crash. After reviewing surveillance video and data from a nearby Shot Spotter, police arrested Salais.

Salais faces charges of second degree murder and shooting from a moving vehicle. The trial is scheduled to last five days.
