ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Transportation Security Administration said it is ready to meet the needs of tens of thousands of travelers who will be passing through the Albuquerque International Sunport during this year’s Balloon Fiesta.
Officials said screening gates will open 15 minutes earlier than normal, and that they expect heavy foot traffic in the mornings and afternoons. “Here at Albuquerque, our busiest time of the year is actually this fiesta, our top passenger volume days have been during this festival, we’re actually more busy now than the holidays,” said Dave Fitz, a TSA regional spokesperson.
TSA said it’s expecting the largest amount of travelers on the Monday following the festival.
“Two years ago, we said the busiest day ever in Albuquerque with over 14 thousand, and last year, the day after the festival, we had more than 13 thousand passengers come through our checkpoint that we screened and sent on their way,” Fitz explained.
