NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Higher morning temperatures are present this morning with lower humidity and slightly stronger south-southwesterly winds for most areas. Few areas in the higher elevations of the Northern Mountains are starting off around or below the freezing mark, while most other areas in New Mexico are in the upper 40s to the lower 60s.

Stronger upper-level westerly winds will push some passing clouds with very few areas experiencing light rain, but most will remain mostly clear from clouds as temperatures will rise even more. Mountainous areas will reach the 60s and 70s, plenty warm enough for more snow melt in Sangre de Cristo Mountains through the San Juan Mountains, while most areas to the south will reach the 80s and 90s.
Surface winds will pick up as well from the south to from the west for the next few days with potentially-damaging winds along the east slopes of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, as well as the Sacramento Mountains, with very gusty winds in the open plains as well. Warmer weather with dangerously low humidity and the gustier winds will elevate the fire threat, especially in southwestern areas today, but even moreso for other areas through the middle of the week.
Closer-to-normal temperatures will return towards the end of the week before the next warmup precedes the next windy event as rain/snow will mostly remain north of Northern New Mexico.
