In a recent interview with Indiewire, Bardem spoke about how the Netflix crime series managed to garner massive popularity. He revealed that many individuals reached out to him after the docu-series release. They told him that they liked the show and delved deep into the real-life case after watching the show.
The series’ popularity and critical acclaim reportedly prompted authorities to reopen the Menendez brothers case. Bardem also acknowledged the series’ quality and engaging storyline.
“The fact that the case can be reopened because of how the show has reached the audience and has put the case onto the table, it speaks volumes about the quality of the show and the quality of the research that Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan did as artists and also as very responsible people knowing that they are dealing with very, very sensitive material,” he said.
Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story is a crime series that centers around the Menendez brothers who were convicted of murdering their parents. On one hand, the law disputed that the brothers committed the offense to secure the family fortune. However, the brothers to date remain firm on their claim that their motivation for committing the offense stemmed from years of physical and mental abuse.
While the show has received criticism for its tone and writing, the reception has been largely positive. It is among the most popular crime drama shows on Netflix in recent years.
