115 New Mexico students receive more than $120K in scholarships

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – 115 kids from around the state got a boost in their college educations after receiving scholarship money. This is the 37th year the Excellence in Education Scholarship Program has awarded funds.

This year, those awards totaled more than $120,000. “We often hear that schools like ours in the South Valley, serving mostly Hispanic students, low income students, can’t compete with schools in more affluent areas. And, as Kyle has shared, it’s good having those moments to say: check the scoreboard. Yes, we can. Si se puede. Absolutely we can do this. And we’re going to do it better than everybody else,” said Jade Rivera, Executive Director/Founder of Albuquerque Collegiate.

The money for those scholarships comes from funds raised at a charity golf tournament hosted by the Hispano Chamber Foundation.
