3.1-magnitude earthquake near Ontario slightly shakes Southern California

A magnitude-3.1 earthquake centered about two miles southeast of Ontario struck at 12:56 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1, the US Geological Survey said.

The earthquake was felt in Victorville, Riverside, Los Angeles, Long Beach, Mission Viejo and Oceanside, among other locations, according to the USGS intensity map .

An earthquake of that magnitude is rarely capable of causing more than extremely minor damage.
