ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – People, cars, and bikes filled Civic Plaza in Albuquerque on Thursday for the 4th Annual Vehicle for Change Conference.

The conference, which started Thursday and continues in different locations in the city until June 2, featured workshops, activities, and opportunities to network with other cities, including their police departments, school systems, lowrider clubs, and city officials who are starting up their own lowrider programs or trying to grow them.

The conference also includes technical support for municipalities to learn how to repeal any anti-cruising legislation in their communities. “Lowriding is a part of our culture, it’s part of our community, it’s part of who we are here in the Duke City. So just being able to see something start off so micro, and just hit such a macro level, and seeing so much interest in it, is exciting,” said Dacia Vanderslice, mentor.

Conference attendees will also have the opportunity to exhibit their lowrider cars and lowrider bikes in the Albuquerque Lowrider Supershow on Sunday.

The annual event has taken place the first week of June since 2021. To learn more, click here.
