QUESTA, N.M. (KRQE) – The trial against the first man charged under Bennie’s Law in New Mexico is underway. William Brown is charged with negligently making a firearm accessible to a minor. Jury selection is underway and once they have a jury seated, opening statements will begin. Brown is facing 18 months behind bars if convicted.
His son, Porfirio Brown, is charged with second-degree murder and assault on a peace officer. His first trial ended in a hung jury. His second trial is scheduled to begin on August 19.
