Filip Borovicanin hopes to bring instant impact to UNM men’s basketball

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) –If his first basketball season in a UNM basketball jersey goes according to plan, Filip Borovicanin will have an immediate impact on Lobos basketball. The 6’9″ transfer from the Arizona Wildcats believes the high-level reps he has been a part of the last few years will help his cause.

“I mean, for sure, it helps me a lot because playing high level, coming here to play on the highest level, of course, college basketball,” said Borovicanin. “I have already adjusted to that and I think I can help this team in a lot of ways, defensively, offensively, shooting, passing. Borovicanin averaged 2.3 points per game at Arizona last season and nearly 2 rebounds per contest in a reserve role.

He is a skillful player who can also play guard as well as his natural forward position, if needed. He has added some size to the Lobos and may get a chance to play guard, depending on the situation.

“Coach (Richard Pitino) tells me all the time to play the guard, to shoot the ball,” said Borovicanin. “I appreciate him and he expects me to be the guard here for this team, not play small forward or power forward which is not my position. Power forward is more of my position, but he wants me to play guard and wing, you know. I can help bring size, you know, and guard, and if there need to be switches, you know, guarding bigger man or anything I can do all that. So, yeah.”
